Synoposis

Connor is a bright kid. Who is hated by everyone in his class and his big sister but one day decided on opposite day he would turn opposite. From a smart kid he turned into an imbecile. From the most unpopular boy he turns to the most liked and popular kid.

Pitch.

This Kid.
Named Connor.
Who is smart, and talented, and loathed by everyone.
On opposite day, is suddenly turned to the opposite.

Locations

This will be one of the classrooms where the characters personality really comes through. The audience sees how special he is.
In this scene the girls are introduced and we understand how much they actually hate him. Two scenes are shot in the same location to make use of space.

The house of the main character. Its brightly coloured to signify happiness which is also shown through the pillars which have smiley faces drawn on them.

Locations

This is one of the locations that will be used in our trailer; a textiles classroom, because we just want to show the main character in one of his lessons. It is quite a girly subject and you wouldn't expect boys to pick it (stereotypically) so we want to go against that view. Also he will be featured in this subject on a "good day" when he is his usual weird self.

Other lessons include Drama, which he isn't good at.

Feelings and impacts of music video's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM5YDI7ttME

Music videos and have a huge impact on the audience if it's a type that they prefer it can help give a sense of diversion helping them to get away from the real world. It can have both positive and negative impact to the listener. A positive thing can be that it cheer someone up after listening to it. It can also effect our emotions a lot. Music can create bonds between people who have little in common.

Homework- Review of Survey

From my survey I found out many things; first of all 85% of the audience were aged 15-17 this showed me that the majority seemed to like to like these kinds of trailers; which include comdedy and a bit of drama. I also realized that in one of my questions I didn't give an option for those who didn't like the trailer; though this was done unintentionally, the results infer that still; everyone that took part either answered "good" or "exellent" to the question; "what is your overall opinion of this trailer" Generally the audience thought that it was an appealing trailer and 8 out  of 13 people would go to watch this film. Not including "If I don't have to pay" answer.

Sixty Six Analysis.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL7pNPk8hyI

The trailer begins straight away with the Institution name "Universal" this may be for the audience who like movies produced by them or have heard of the name; they be more likely to pay more attention to the trailer, because they know it would be a good production generally.
Soon after; there is non-diegetic sound and at the same time staright cut to the next scene.
The first official scene is with a long shot of four boys; this may have used to make the audience guess who the main charecter would be. Also the viewer sees the clothes that they are all wearing to give us an idea of the place that they are in and in the corner there is a water fountain which is normally in school's and because of the whistle sound we immidietley join all these hints together; that they are all in a school and in a P.E class.
There are many transitions used throughout the trailer; fade to white, dissolve to next scene but mostly straight cut. One of the first dialogue we hear is from Bernie himself; because he says "...and that's me" and when he says that there is a close up of his face to show his emotion when he is picked last.

However he doesn't say his own name. It's another charecter "Bernie" the way that he says he doesn't seem so happy about it or with a happy face which makes us know that he isn't liked in his class very much. His classmate doesn't use positive body language which is another hint given to us about the main charecter. There is also a voice over which backs up this theory "Bernie Reuben is dreamt of being remembered" "...where's Bernie" by his mother suddenly turning around to check, and staright away we get like a flashback- staright to Bernie yelling "HELLPPPP" at the beach now we definatley know he's never remembered or like even if it is his own family.

The music is slow paced with a jolly rhythem throught out but when it get's to the disequilibrium  a few notes are repeated when the dilema is revealed and the camera does quick zoom in and out 3 times from long medium shot to close up. It could be to exagerate this part and make us realize that this wha the whole movie is about. "The World cup final is on the day of Bernies Barmitzwah"

Through out the trailer there is a voice over (non-american) who keeps sort of summing up what each scene is showing this is for those who don't understand what is happening.
There is also light humour used "Bollocks, Bollocks Bollocks" not not stress on the serious side too much, and whenver a really important dialogue from the narrater there is always a scene staright after which shows dialogue from the movie make it more serious and back up the point.

Finally the last dialogue is said by Bernie himself as a narraters to tell his story "If you havn't got alot of foreskin you need a lot of balls to make up for it"this is agin light  humour again. And then the last scene is faded into the tittle screen "Sixt Six" with a black bacground to make the white and thered stand out so the tittle is more memorable also because the movie was made in the same year. It finishes off with "Coming Soon" to keep the intrested audience in anxiety and keep them looking out for for news. 'BAM' there is freeze frame of credits card at the end and the trailer is finsihed.

What makes a Hero

What makes him an Action Hero:

  • What he is wearing (armour)
  • What his name is
  • The type of weapons that are shown
  • Fighting
  • His facial expressions
BATMAN
the-dark-knight-1.jpg
The Hero needs to be able to fight and travel long distances across different terrain: When Batman has to chase the van that the joker is driving. At the same time joker is trying to harm the police car which has the president of United States, but he does not know that it's all in the plan. So basically Batman finds himself physically capable but putting the president's life at risk, just so he can catch Joker. He is able to travel at long distance with his wire and his batmobile. This tells us that he is the hero because at the end they get joker and put him into jail, but because of his sly ways, he trick the men working to let him have a phone call which is what everyone is allowed. so when he gives the number a ring, they realise that the phone is ringing somewhere in the building and the phone is placed inside one of the cell mates stomach. in the end one of the police officers presses the accept button, then the whole place explodes. Allowing the joker to be free. AGAIN.

  • Men
  • Women
  • Teens
  • Adults
  • British viewers
  • American viewers
Elements that have been included in the trailer that might appeal to the following groups.
Men: Weapons, machines, fighting, cars, money, james bond classics, poker game, attractive women
Women: Money? Handsome men, romance,
Teens: action, violence, stunts
Adults: Plot
British viewers: james bond, its a british classic
American viewers: Expensive cars. good looking casts, good views.

The two categories that have the most annotations is men and Women
Least annotations; Adults, American Viewers
I think the trailer and the makers of the film tried to involve both the categories but by doing that they alienated the bottom  two. I think that they did try to involve both men and women.
The figures for Casino Royale do not support my idea because they had the most gross for world wide.
The Bond Franchise as a whole often accused of sexist portrayals of women, this may affect its potential women because, if they find that its too sexist they wouldn't want to come watch its making them out to be something else. However I think think that they keep it to a minimum so its not that affective. The skull suggests death giving the genre action, because its obviously  going to have action

Three things on the posters that wold suggests it fits in the genre of Action Adventure.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Weapons, People that look fierce and ready for action, attractive women, the word pirates
Fugitive: "wife is Murdered" giving away the genre with the word murdered suggesting that it could have some action in it. He's running, fugitive and the train moving past him. he's a man…
The Gladiator: He's wearing armour, holding a sword. The word Gladiator, its as man. The place that he is standing in. he's clearly going for a fight!
Avatar: The Fantasy action adventure, there is small planes, the two characters at the beginning are not real which could signify that.

The two films that fit into the genre action adventure just by the poster is; The pirates of the Caribbean&Gladiator because they have that fierce glow to them, they all include weapons and stuff.
The hardest to define would be the Avatar because it doesn't have any elements of action its just fantasy even though we know that there are sometimes hybrids.
The films have more in common than more in difference.

The audience would expect lots of different things from Action Adventure films; they'd see killings, quests, journeys, romance and trilogy. Batman has the Villain Joker and the Hero Batman, lots of shooting especially at the beginning, the bank scene where each worker is killed one by one.

Action Adventure films are so popular with audiences because they are easy to follow, and they have good plots sometimes there are times when something different happens, and they always keep the audience hooked. Suspense, violence. Fun to watch how the story unfolds, fairly straightforward, and the dispute is solved using physical violence. They are usually expensive because of stunts, and most of the time American. Some people may criticise the Action Adventure because of the low quality scripts, they are predictable, Cheesy dialogue, simple. Mediocre Storyline, Storyline, simple theme…

A Pitch.
At least one character is non stereotypical.
  • Title: The Visitors
  • Age Certificate: 16+
  • Plot: a girl is being r and the fat man saves the day.
  • Characters:
  • What Film inspired my idea
  • How you insured your one character was "non stereotypical" my non stereotypical charecter is a fat black guy who saves the day. With a sidekick animal...

Task One: (A)

Explain the main features of action adventure films and provide examples to support your ideas. Refer to at least two action adventure films.

  • Batman
  • 2012
Things to mainly write about:
  • Representation,
  • institution,
  • audience,
  • Media Language; Storyline and plot. Structure, Oppositional characters. Journey/Quest. Action Sequence.

There are many features of an action adventure film, nearly all of them include hero's and villains.Characters that will come and save your life, and ones where they want to take it away. They also include many fierce weapons such as swords and guns. The Institution for Batman is Warner Bros. which is quite a famous Hollywood Blockbuster mostly known for the successes of the films that have been made; such as Inception, Valentines Day, Red Riding Hood;  and The Famous Harry Potter series. There all also different genres for this film much as Thriller, Crime and Drama. By having more than one genre it adds to the audiences interest. it also makes the movie more interesting and makes the viewer more hooked. I think the target audience for this movie would be 15-22 because if it was below fifteen, some parents would not like their children watching a movie which includes violence and some swearing. Although Officially it has been rated PG-13 for intense sequence of violence and some menace. Batman the dark knight has been structured in the traditional way; which is the Equilibrium first which is the existing state of harmony, then the Disiquilibrium this is the part when the harmony is disrupted and and an unfortunate event or evil characters come along to destroy something or someone. Leading to a conflict. Finally the New Equilibrium occurs; the evil forces have been evicted and the conflict has been resolved and there is harmony once again. The oppositional characters are also well known, even for people that haven't watched the movie, when you think of Batman the second character that comes to mind is the Joker, they're sort of like a pair.

Analyzing Batman-The Dark Knight&The website: Why so serious?

http://www.whysoserious.com/
The similarity between the website and the poster is that they are both are related to the joker. He is the main character being shown to the audience. Its all to do with him on the website and in the poster its him again. Both the poster and the website are ways of promoting the movie-Batman The Dark Knight.
However when first entering the website it's not clear what the whole point is as it doesn't actually say anything about the movie Its takes couple of seconds to make you realize, what and why the reasons are for some of the things that have been put on there.
The website; As you enter the website the first thing you hear is 'Thsi is a GCN Traffic Update' and you hear the rest of the news, which could  connote that its somewhere alot of crime happens. This connotes a bank robbery, which is mentioned. The first thing that grabs the viewers attention is the To Do List in the middle of the page. One of the things written on there is 'Make fun of the Batman' this gives the readers hints about what this website is, and about who...it also tells you that this is from the joker, because who else is Batman's biggest enemy? The joker. Which later on makes you realize that this website is from the Joker's perspective and kind of put into comedy style layout, the words written everywhere makes you realize this, but you realize faster if you're a fan of the series and have previous knowledge about the characters and the movie itself. It has been set out as a table, and has files, documents and pictures. There is one of the batman but you can tell it has been messed with because his face has been coloured in 'joker style' i.e the black eyes and the red lipstick.

The Poster: The poster looks as if it might have been hand created, just not the typography bit, 'The Dark Knight' has been made bold and Sharp, this could be to grab attention but it doesn't seem as if that was the makers real target because I think this poster was directed to people that are already familiar to Batman from the previous movie. Also it just says the Dark Knight, new viewers would think what/who is that. But after they would figure out because within the text written from the words 'HAHAHAHAH' is the Batman logo, the bat. The poster doesn't give any details about the movie, so it just keeps you curious, especially where it says 'its simple kill the batman' it makes you think the hero always wins, will this be any different, and will the joker succeed in his plan? There is a medium close up of the batman in the middle, but you can tell that it has been made out of cards. Around that there are cards which have jokers of them, seeing as all the jokers are on the outskitrts of the picture and the batman is in the middle this could mean that the joker is being taken over by the joker, it seems if it were a moving pictures then the joker cards would cover up the Batman's face slowly.
Bat mans face has also been messed with similarly to the one on the website, he has lipstick/blood smudged around his lips, and on the side there is a scalpel and then you realize his smile has been stretched with it and the red bits are meant to represent blood. The cut hasn't touched his lips, and just beside his nose, it says 'why so serious' which could represent him trying to cheer things up in his own way. On his head it says 'its all part of the plan' meaning kill batman?? This poster is also from the Joker's perspective, if I haven't mentioned it before, its like a teaser, the target audience would be for kids around; 14-20 because nearly everyone around that age likes the movie, and would be well informed about the joker and the movie, to get what the poster is about, and trying oto say. Lastly; jokers are always part of a pack of cards; and cards are used to play games, which could mean that Joker's tricks are all part of a game in his mind.

TV Advert Analysing

http://www.tellyads.com/show_movie.php?filename=TA0001

This is an Advert for the AA Team. I think that this advert achieved its hope for bringing in as many viewers as possible, though I dont know its statistics. The reason why I think it could have been so successful is that; it included bits where some parts that are quite curious making. for example in the beginning there is singing and you see lots of men, in yellow florecent jackets and stereotypically women are seen as the people that sing (in most times) so you want to see what could be described as commostion is about. alonside that you want to see why there are so many men all in one place, but then you find out when at some point in the middle you have a long shot of the text ""AA"" on one of the mens jacket...

The advert uses mostly Long shots, however in some places there are birds eye views because there are just so many people. The target audience could be anyone from the ages 18-39 because at 18 you can get your drivers licence and after 39 you're just too old anyway I cant imagine old people getting stuck somewhere and calling the AA. In addition the Mise en sene changes frequently though at all times it's set outide not in a studio. The Denotation of the AA on the jacket could be that, the reason why it wasn't shown bigger or before could be that when you see the broken car and the steam then straight after that people in yellow you sort of have an idea whether it could be a car company or not, because they are well know, for their yellowy-ness.

Homework-Print Advert (FlowerByKenzo)

FlowerByKenzo

This is a print advert for the perfume 'Flower' By Kenzo.
(BEST perfume EVER!!)
From this advert you can say the denotation would be it has a bright red rose sort of spread out upside-down, the connotation of this could be that its a symbol of passion and love, the colour of the rose would also give a clear idea for the smell, quite floral like. The target audience I think would be not for exactly teenagers by the way it's been put forward because of the colours used, they stand out but still simple at the same time, which makes it look more attractive, bold and also makes it stand out especially because of the Red. Back to the target audience, I think it would be directed at the ages 20-27 because even though it's not deigned for youths its still has that appealing look. The background is white, sort of contrasting with the red, which could denote that if you get this you could be a person with contrast and you could also be vibrant, and will make you fell 'hot'. It could also point out that this product is for those who mostly just like to smell good, in their everyday, any day or time and this is just the smell for you because everyone likes the smell of roses.
The flower and red could represent love or something along those lines maybe sexiness it could want you to know if you get this this is what it'll make you feel, attractive and give you more attention from others. The fact that that is the only colour that really stands out (other than the little bit of green) give syou more time to just think of more things in less time. If there was lots of diffrent colours you might not know what to think. Because its only red there might be for some people only maybe only limited points about the reasons for it being a red flower come to mind but they would be the well known ones that would want to make you buy it a bit more.
The typography is quite unique and I think it stands out alot from others because the designer made the tittle only a tiny distance away from the main image, so that once you have been caught by the redness you'll then look at the poster in detail, which would then make you automatically ask yourself what Brand or make the perfume is, and you'd want to see if it's a popular make. Straight away you'd see the name. And I love how he's made his name match with the main image in bold, so it stands out. Also all of the letters are in capital letters which could suggest that it's important product or person. The word 'Flower' is in thin italic sort of font which makes the advert stand out alot more.
The main bottle of the perfume is simple yet exquisite, this could make the audience want to know that it doesn't matter what your're personality is like may it even me simple and plain, but this product is still for you no matter who you are. You dont have to be an important person or celeb to get this. It's for general, normal people...

Advert that does not work

I think this advert does not work, because this is diffrent to what they say in the end. If I watched it without sound, which is what I did at first. It didn't make any sence, all I saw was the writing, the lanterns going up then the last thing was the HSBC logo. It wasn't relevent and didn't include any text exept in the end, to link the two areas. However when I watched it again,  the narrater said '' At HSBC we want our customers to prosper, help achieve your financial prosperity'' That made more sence, but other wise if you missed the last two words, you still wouldn't find it that intresting.

Adverts Log

Though it may seem peculiar, I chose the channel Sky news, because as a politics fan I like to turn to a channel that updates me on the latest news. It is also my most frequently watched channel.

Before-There weren't a lot of adverts before the news. But the ones that where there seemed  to be quite long and some even repeated. Most of the time the advert from sponsors of the channel  (Qatar Airways ) would come up to remind the viewers, for many reasons, one could be that as it is a frequent watched channel if they keep playing their advert then possibly they would receive alot of customers. I don't think this is relevant to the target audience as it is something they have to play. Other than this they also played different adverts for perfumes which include some bad scenes which aren't for children. As it was the Christmas season there were alot of adverts from supermarkets that were holding sales, such as next, Sainsbury's and Waitrose. I think this is relevant to the target audience of the channel because, usually adults would be the ones going in for sales and looking for discounts, this also links with the target of sky news as the news that they cover are not for young ones.

During-  During the half n hour news broadcasts there is only one break for 10 minutes, most of which include the one where they show the advert of Jeff Randall and the major interview/discussion he would be having in a few days with important people from the Parliament side, you know this as they show different names on name plates which also reads who they are and what they do as a job. This is also a relevance to the target audience as people would think mostly adults watch that sort of stuff. which proves maybe that only adults watch the channel because only they are interested in news and politics. Also he hosts his own show at eight every afternoon full politics and catch up news.

After-  The news ends with a conclusion and a reminder a about the website, and a another break occurs. Usually it's everything that came on before. From the supermarkets but also sometimes they show the advert from go compare which is just ridiculous but I think there is a hidden meaning as to why they put it on. However it sort of does relate to audience same reason as before but I don't think it's right because you're not going to turn to this channel just to watch that advert. It's EVERYWHERE! Finally they show the DFS advert which shows a variety of sofa's and it couldn't possibly make it clearer that it's holding a sale, because the amount of times it's repeated is uncountable.

These adverts help you realize that the target audience for the channel could be about +15 to about 85. But just because the adverts aren't aimed at your age doesn't mean you can't watch the news to know what is happening around you and it's good to keep and update.
